WORDS FROM THE VENDORS:

Every weekend, we piled all the children into the car and set off to view houses. We would see no less than 7 houses each day and none were quite right. And then we came to Yelvertoft. And truth be told, the previous owner sent us on quite the goose chase, wanting to sell, not wanting to sell, wanting to rent, not wanting to. In the same day we eventually saw the house, she had changed her mind for us to see the house 4 times. 4 times! We were actually half way home already when she changed her mind again, the kids were tired and cranky and we nearly didn't turn back.

Our first impression upon entering Yelvertoft from Crick Road was a sense of calmness. There were no cars on the road, and it wasn't over developed. And Ashwells Lane was even nicer as it was off the main road. The house itself was done to a nice standard which meant we could move in and feel comfortable straight away... very important when moving with children! The house had two decent sized gardens, a beautiful open plan kitchen/dining room/ family room, and VERY large windows, which meant I could keep an eye on the children wherever they were, inside or outside. Any parent will tell you, having children means wanting eyes in the back of your head... this is the next best thing! And on top of that, the back garden is completely private. COMPLETELY! So if you want to let the "kids" run around the back garden in their birthday suit... go ahead, we won't tell!

To be honest though, we weren't sure about the village. Was it too quiet?? With one pub, post office and deli/butchers, could we go a bit stir crazy here? On the other hand, the very very good village primary school was only a 1 minute walk down the road... plus all our awkward furniture fit perfectly! We bought the house! And it was the best decision we ever made.

Now it's time to say goodbye. We were always going to outgrow the house, we just didn't realise how much we'd want to stay!

The house is perched higher than the street so you never have to worry about flooding. I LOVE walking the kids to school, and when I can't do it for some reason, there are always parents willing to pick them up on the way. You can make friends and chat at the school gate and still lock yourself away in your back garden away from peering eyes. There is a ladies group called Totties, where mum's alike meet once a month for a little me-time. We have a men's football team. And while the pub at first seems quite old-man-esque, it really is friendly and welcoming. Our roads are never busy and there's ample parking and you're literally 15 minutes from every where. The school is AWESOME and so is the preschool, and they integrate the kids from one to the next seamlessly. The sun rises at the front of the house which is gorgeous when setting off to school, and sets in the back garden, perfect for lazy days, trampolines and hanging your washing! And the neighbours are extremely helpful. We accept each other's post, we lend and borrow dishwashing tablets, garlic or even bottles of gin, and we help with each other's kids. There is a saying that it takes a village to raise a family... this was our village, this was our family and we'll be very sad to say goodbye!
